DEATH — XIII

“Some things must end for something new to begin.”

Despite its ominous name, the Death card rarely speaks of literal death. Instead, it represents endings, transformation and transition — those moments when something has run its course and we are being asked to release what was so that something new has room to emerge.

And sometimes, letting go is the hardest part.

In this design, a wide-eyed black cat wraps its paws around a hand and holds on with everything it has. There is something wonderfully familiar in that resistance. Even when we know change is necessary, part of us may still cling tightly to what feels known, safe or comfortable. Death reminds us that transformation often begins when we finally loosen our grip.

An ending can carry grief. Change can be uncomfortable. But neither means that nothing remains. Like the turning of seasons, what ends can become the beginning of something we couldn’t yet see.
